K.I...Time to go home!

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018
~
We were up early to pack everything up and I caught the sunrise...
~

Quite beautiful...very peaceful.
~

Do we have to leave?
~

~

We left Snelling Beach and made our way to catch the 10.30 ferry at Penneshaw.  We had another smooth crossing - we cannot believe our luck with the weather!  Farewell, KI, we'll certainly return for more camping and exploring sometime!

K.I...Day 7

Monday, April 9th, 2018
~
This is our last day on the island so we hit the beach in the morning.  That is our little beach house on the left...
~

You can imagine how scary that day was when the fire went through...the volunteers did a fantastic job as there is not a scorch mark on the house...but everything around it is burned!  Too close for comfort!
~

Time to go back to the house for lunch... I've been dreaming of this for days!
~

We have gathered some local products to combine with meats and cheeses.  Those olives were great, as were the sticky figs!
~

~

What a spot to sit and enjoy lunch!
~

After lunch, we went back down onto the beach and fished.  It wasn't long before we got nibbles and reeled a few in.  That is a whiting that Gus has...
~

Same for me...
~

Then they started getting ugly.  We fished until about 6pm then called it quits.  It was a lot of fun - fishing always is if there is something biting!

K.I...Day 6

Sunday, 8th April, 2018

Today we packed up camp and headed to Snelling Beach which is where we are staying the next 2 nights in accommodation.  Rather than tow Pearl all the way down to the Flinders Chase National Park, we'll leave her there then check in later this afternoon.
~

It is only about 100kms down to the national park, some dirt road then bitumen.
~

We arrived and had lunch (chicken baguettes) at FCNP Visitor Centre before making our way down to see Admirals Arch.  The board walk it great access for those who don't like steps and also for wheelchairs.
~

It is really overcast and muggy so the colour of the ocean is not it's best.  It would be spectacular on a blue sky sunny day...
~

Can you spot the seals basking on the rocks?
~

~

A few flights of steps leading down to the viewing points...

Weirs Cove
~

The best looking 4WD on Kangaroo Island!
~

Coastal view on our way to see Remarkable Rocks...
~

~

By the time we go here, there were lots of people clambering all over the rocks and because is was quite hot and muggy, we decided this was as close as we needed to get...call us lazy!
~
We drove back the way we came then continued onto Snelling Beach (it was about a 5 hour round trip including the sightseeing) and arrived just after 3pm.

This is our lovely accommodation...

~

Sunroom with a view...
~

~

The bushfire has opened up the view of the beach, pity its all charred!
~

~

Time for a well earned gin!  We had the mulberry gin with ginger beer - delicious!
~

What a view!
~

Dinner time!  I made a focaccia...
~

~

...to go with the spaghetti bolognese...

Sunset on a perfect day...

K.I...Day 5

Sat 7th April, 2018

Today, we tried our hands at fishing.  Both novices, we bought new fishing rods and thought we'd give it a go.  These rocks are hard to stand on, especially in thongs...
~

It is a gorgeous little bay...or cove.  Safe swimming for children.
~

It wasn't long before I'd caught my first fish!  Yay!
~

The view back to the camp area...
~

~

~

We headed to Stokes Bay where we had a lunch booking...let's hope they're open!
~

This little bay area was burnt out back in early February.  Around 75 hectares was burned, starting at the Fig Tree restaurant.
~

~

~

This is going to be our accomodation tomorrow night...how lucky that none of the buildings were burned!  No homes or lives lost thanks to hard working CFS, SES volunteers and neighbours!
~

This is the Rockpool Cafe...a quirky little place serving lovely fresh seafood among other things.
~

It was a very warm day so there were lots of people about...
~

Gus has the seafood plate and I had the crumbed whiting fillets which were very good!
~

Back home we tootled along another dirt road...
~

We were keen to try fishing again.  This time I wore better footwear which made walking on the rocks a lot easier.  Within minutes of throwing my line in, I had fish number one! (4.16pm)
~

Second fish landed at 4.22pm.  Gus was still baiting his hook!  :)
~

Such a glamorous shot!  Fish number three landed 4.25pm!
~

I think Gus got a few fish too but we didn't take any more pictures.  We tried fishing around this side of the cove but didn't have any luck.
~

Back home to talk about the ones that got away.  Seriously, we have been so lucky with the weather.  Sunny, hot days and cool nights but little wind.
~

Dinner tonight is a stir fry a la Joolz ...
~

All the stir-fry goodies...
~

Doesn't look too bad!
~

~

Milo and a bikkie to finish off the day.  Night, night!
~
